Privacy Policy

The short version

If you subscribe, your email address is stored so that investigations can be sent to you. If you subscribe as a paying supporter, a payment processor handles your card details, which are never seen or stored by this publication.

Nothing is sold. Nothing is shared with advertisers or data brokers. There are no advertising trackers, no social media pixels, and no cross-site profiling.

What is collected, and why

If you subscribe to the newsletter (free): Your email address, and the date you subscribed. This is used solely to send you investigations when they are published. Nothing else is sent, and your address is used for no other purpose.

If you become a paying supporter: Your email address, your subscription status and history, and the country used for tax purposes. Card and bank details are collected and processed directly by the payment provider and are never transmitted to, seen by, or stored by this publication.

Email delivery data: The newsletter system records whether emails were successfully delivered, and may record whether an email was opened or a link clicked. This is used to know whether the newsletter is reaching people and whether the technical delivery is working. It is not used to build profiles of individual readers, and it is not shared.

Site analytics: Aggregate statistics on which articles are read, roughly where readers are in the world, and which sites or platforms they arrived from. This is used to understand which subjects reach people, which informs what gets researched next. It is not linked to your identity or your subscription.

Search performance data: Google Search Console reports which search queries lead to the site and how pages rank. This is aggregate data. It contains no personal information about individual readers.

Server and technical data: As with any website, the hosting infrastructure processes technical information, including IP addresses, for the purposes of delivering pages, maintaining security, and preventing abuse. Some page assets may be delivered via a content delivery network, which will process the requesting IP address in order to serve the file.

Local storage: The cookie notice records your acknowledgement in your browser's local storage so that it is not shown again. This stays on your device and is not transmitted anywhere.

That is the complete list. There is no advertising network, no social media tracking pixel, no third-party behavioural profiling, and no data broker relationship of any kind.

Legal bases for processing

Under the General Data Protection Regulation, personal data is processed here on the following bases:

• Consent, for sending you the newsletter. You gave it by subscribing, and you can withdraw it at any time by unsubscribing, with no effect on anything processed before you did.
• Performance of a contract, for administering a paid subscription.
• Legal obligation, for retaining records required for tax and accounting purposes.
• Legitimate interests, for aggregate analytics, security, abuse prevention, and the basic technical operation of the site. These interests have been weighed against your rights, and the processing involved is minimal and non-intrusive.

Who else processes your data

Data is shared only with the service providers needed to run the publication. Each acts as a processor under contract and may use your data only for the purpose of providing that service.

• Google Search Console, provides aggregate search performance data.
• Content delivery and infrastructure providers, deliver page assets and protect against abuse.

Your data is not sold, rented, or shared with anyone else, and it never will be.

International transfers

Some of these providers are based outside the European Economic Area, or process data in countries outside it. Where that happens, transfers are made under the safeguards permitted by the GDPR, an adequacy decision, or Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission. You may request further detail on the safeguards applying to a specific transfer.

How long data is kept

• Newsletter subscriptions: until you unsubscribe or ask for deletion. Unsubscribing removes you from the sending list; a record of the unsubscription may be kept to ensure you are not re-added.
• Paid subscription records: for as long as the subscription is active, and afterwards for the period required by Danish accounting and tax law.
• Aggregate analytics: retained in aggregate form, not tied to identifiable individuals.
• Technical logs: retained only as long as needed for security and operational purposes.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to:

• Access the personal data held about you
• Rectify data that is inaccurate or incomplete
• Erase your data ("the right to be forgotten")
• Restrict processing in certain circumstances
• Object to processing based on legitimate interests
• Data portability, receive your data in a machine-readable format
• Withdraw consent at any time, where processing is based on consent
• Not be subject to automated decision-making. No automated decision-making or profiling of any kind takes place here.

To exercise any of these, email a.kade@thekadefrequency.com. Requests are answered without undue delay and in any case within one month. There is no charge.

The simplest route for most people is the unsubscribe link at the foot of every email, which takes effect immediately.

Complaints

If you believe your data has been handled improperly, please raise it directly first, it will be taken seriously and dealt with quickly.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. In Denmark this is Datatilsynet (the Danish Data Protection Agency), www.datatilsynet.dk. You may also complain to the supervisory authority in your own country of residence.

Cookies and similar technologies

This site does not use advertising or tracking cookies.

The technologies in use are limited to those necessary for the site to function: session handling for signed-in members, local storage for the cookie notice, and any cookies set by the hosting platform for security and delivery. No cookie is used to track you across other websites, and no data is shared with advertising networks.

Children

This site is not directed at children, and no data is knowingly collected from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has subscribed, email and the record will be deleted.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the revised version is posted here with the date of the change. Where a change materially affects how your personal data is used, and processing relies on your consent, you will be notified directly rather than expected to notice.
